What’s the purpose of StoryWall?

StoryWall is designed to reduce the stress and anxiety of a child who must undergo a medical procedure. The calmer and more relaxed the patient, the less traumatic the experience and the faster the recovery.

How does it work?

StoryWall delivers a revolutionary augmented reality experience that directs the attention of the patient to a fun, interesting, calming environment that combines their present physical surroundings with the 3-dimentional characters and material that exist in the augmented world.

What’s the impact on young patients?

With this bold and new combination of worlds, the patient “knows” where they are but does not dwell on a pending procedure. Feelings of anxiety, dread, apprehension, fear, etc., are set aside as the patient engages with cutting edge augmented reality avatars

What about siblings and adults that accompany the patient?

Siblings accompanying the patient can experience the same augmented reality world. Such engagement adds an element of “group play” that can further calm the patient. It also reduces the boredom and frustration level of the sibling. Adults can receive separate relevant experiences that are appropriate to their needs. How is the StoryWall experience delivered? StoryWall trigger images are placed on either a permanent (like a wall) or moveable (retractable) surface. Individuals register on the Cosmos Continuum Augmented Reality Platform using an email address. The StoryWall app is downloaded to the registrant’s mobile device (smartphone; tablet; laptop). The camera of the device is directed at an icon that reveals the augmented reality experience.

What kind of experience can be delivered to adults? Adults can either share the experience of the patient or access information that is important and relevant to them. Example: food service location; gift shop; restrooms; key hospital information; support information; etc. Unique trigger icons (different from those that are part of the Ocean or Jungle View icons) are used to initiate the experience/message for adults.

What is the fee to facilities for StoryWall? The chosen StoryWall theme is printed onto a germicidal wallpaper which is then installed at the desired location. Additional theme stickers are also available to facilitate the patient’s journey from waiting room to treatment room. Costs associated with the printing and installation of the desired theme is the responsibility of the facility, not Cosmos Continuum.
